SCS Reaches New Carbon Offset Milestone at 125 Million Metric Tons Verified
GHG Project Developers, Landowners, and Offset Buyers Enjoy Benefits of Project Verification
SCS Global Services (SCS) has achieved a new milestone, crossing the 125 million metric tons CO2e mark for carbon offsets verified. This achievement reflects greenhouse gas (GHG) offset projects evaluated over nearly 10 years by SCS, including projects focused on forests and land-use, agriculture, renewable energy, ozone depleting substances (ODS), and more.
To put this in perspective, this amount is comparable to 50 million cows producing methane for one year, providing electricity to 19 million homes, or 14 billion gallons of gasoline consumed.

“SCS’ carbon offset verification team works with project developers and land owners globally to verify GHG emission reductions and removals, helping them demonstrate that their projects are contributing significantly to climate change mitigation,” said Christie Pollet-Young, Director of Greenhouse Gas Verification. “This milestone is the result of the tireless efforts of our clients. We are grateful to work with so many organizations and individuals who have dedicated their resources to this innovative approach of payment for ecosystem services.”
“Forest Carbon Partners has been pleased to work with SCS on over 20 carbon offset verifications,” said New Forests Manager of Investment & Operations, Emily Warms. “We value the expertise and professionalism of the SCS verification team because we know that undergoing third-party verification with SCS helps ensure the long-term integrity of our offset credits.”
“As the nation’s leading supplier of California compliance carbon offsets, Finite Carbon values and relies on SCS verification services to bring our projects to successful completion,” said Finite Carbon president Sean Carney. “SCS was responsible for verifying the 14 million ton Colville IFM Project, California’s largest compliance project to date. We applaud SCS for their role in our process and all of our clients for their long term commitment to sustainable forestry.”
SCS is accredited to provide carbon offset validation and verification under globally recognized standards, including the American Carbon Registry (ACR), Climate Action Reserve (CAR), the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standards (CCB), and California Air Resources Board (CARB) Cap-and-Trade Program. Over 100 million of these offsets have already been officially issued through the registries associated with these standards, with more recently completed verifications awaiting approval by oversight bodies.
