Starbucks C.A.F.E. Practices

¿Qué es Starbucks C.A.F.E. Practices?

For coffee producers in the European region, SCS Global Services Europe B.V. works with Starbucks to develop the Coffee And Farmer Equity (C.A.F.E.) Practices standard to ensure that Starbucks is sourcing sustainably grown and processed coffee. Starbucks defines sustainability as an economically viable model that addresses the social and environmental needs of all the participants in the European supply chain, from farmer to consumer. The standard promotes transparency, profitability, and responsible coffee-growing and coffee-processing practices while improving the livelihoods of coffee farmers and workers and conserving natural habitat for communities. The C.A.F.E. Practices Generic and Smallholder Scorecards encompass a comprehensive set of more than 200 social, economic and environmental indicators that are assessed in the third-party audits.

¿Qué ha cambiado en la V4.0?

SCS Global Services Europe B.V. and Starbucks have spent over two years revising the C.A.F.E. Practices program. Our comprehensive approach included gathering input from key stakeholders, field-testing aspects of the program within various coffee growing regions and evaluating industry best practices. The resulting update to the Standard aims to provide clarity on expectations, promote continuous improvement and strengthen the program’s approach to responsible sourcing. To facilitate the transition to this new system, a two-year transition period has been established, encompassing 2025 and 2026.
